SWON New Librarians Interest Group

Hello and welcome to the New Librarians Interest Group for SWON!

What is SWON?

The Southwest Ohio and Nearby Regional Library System (SWON-RLS) is a support organization that provides continuing education, professional development, technology support, group purchasing and many other benefits to ALL the academic, school, special and public libraries in the southwest part of Ohio and northern part of Kentucky. The mission of SWON is strengthen the region’s libraries by providing educational opportunities and by facilitating local collaboration and conversations between libraries of all types.

What is the New Librarians Interest Group?

This new interest group is a group open to anyone new to libraries–LIS students, library staff, information professionals, and librarians from any kind of library. The network meets a number of times throughout the year to provide networking and professional development opportunities for those new to libraries. The network is hosted by SWON and uses the online platform SWON provides, but the group is otherwise completely independent. This network and the other New to Libraries regional groups throughout Ohio meet annually at regional library conferences.

How can I get involved?

The New Librarians Interest Group is a great way to gain leadership and professional development experience! The group is looking for officers who will take the lead in planning events, meeting up for conferences, and having a social media presence (see the Leadership button in the menu above). If you’re looking to take advantage of the New Librarians Interest Group events without taking a leadership role, that’s fine too! The group meets a number of times throughout the year, and attendance is free for all interested participants.

What if I have questions?
