Hello and welcome to the New-to-Libraries Network for NEO-RLS!
Please note that this group is not currently active. If you are interested in participating or contributing to the group, please use the Contact Us page to reach out!
This is a network of the Northeast Ohio Regional Library System (NEO-RLS) that was created to help new information professionals and library school students in the Northeast Ohio region gain experience in leadership, network with other new professionals, and learn how to be more effective librarians with help from experienced professionals in the field. What is NEO-RLS?
The Northeast Ohio Regional Library System (NEO-RLS) is a support organization that provides continuing education, professional development, technology support, group purchasing and many other benefits to ALL the academic, school, special and public libraries in the 22 northeast counties of Ohio.
ALL libraries are automatic “geographic” members of NEO, if they exist within the counties of Ashland, Ashtabula, Carroll, Columbiana, Coshocton, Cuyahoga, Erie, Geauga, Harrison, Holmes, Knox, Lake, Lorain, Mahoning, Medina, Portage, Richland, Stark, Summit, Trumbull, Tuscarawas, Wayne.
Many libraries also choose to become “full” members of NEO, which means they pay dues so as to enjoy additional benefits, including a 50% reduction in all service costs, access to valuable group discounts and more.
What is the New-to-Libraries Network?
This new “network” is a group open to anyone new to libraries–LIS students, library staff, information professionals, and librarians from any kind of library. The network meets a number of times throughout the year to provide networking and professional development opportunities for those new to libraries. The network is hosted by NEO-RLS and the NEO offices in Hudson, OH are used for presentations, but the network is otherwise completely independent.
How can I get involved?
The New-to-Libraries Network is a great way to gain leadership and professional development experience! The group is looking for officers who will take the lead in planning events, meeting up for conferences, and having a social media presence (see the Leadership button in the menu above). If you’re looking to take advantage of the New-to-Libraries Network events without taking a leadership role, that’s fine too! The group meets a number of times throughout the year, and attendance is free for all interested participants.
